Integrated Measurements, Instrumentation & Optimization For Plant-Wide Process Control Towards Sustainable National Energy Security

Abstract. The apparent decline of fossil fuel reserves during the past 3 decades has put a significant pressure to majority of power, process and manufacturing industries. In order to contribute in resolving the issue, the Instrumentation and Control Research Group ITB (ICRG ITB) organizes its research and teaching activities to develop an integrated measurements, instrumentation & optimization environment for plant-wide process control, aiming on minimizing the energy consumption in industries. The integrated environment will respond to problems of increasing production of power plants, enforcing smart energy distribution and improving the efficiency of energy consumption. These problems are addressed through sub studies encompassing 6 (six) major emerging competences of ICRG, i.e. Smart Sensors; Real Time & Grid Computing; Qualitative Image Based Measurements; Intelligent Systems, Measurements and Control; Supply Chain Management; and Plant-wide Optimization and Control.

Keywords: Energy sustainability; Process, power & manufacturing industries; Plant-wide measurements, instrumentation and optimization system.
